14-National Lifeguard Recertification


The National Lifeguard recertification exam is your opportunity to demonstrate your skills and recertify your certificate. You are responsible for reviewing the required content and skills and preparing yourself for the exam. Your exam is based on the National Lifeguard Award curriculum. Updates to this curriculum may be obtained from the Quebec Lifesaving Society website.

AGE
16 years+

WHAT TO BRING:
- Lifesaving society account number or a photocopy of their previous national lifeguard certification.
- Bring pocket mask, whistle, and if possible, gloves.

PREREQUISITE
National Lifeguard certification dating NO MORE than 48 months from certification/re-certificaiton date. (While one may re-certify a National Lifeguard certification that has expired (NLS certifications are valid for 24 months) within the above time frame, one may work as a lifeguard ONLY with a valid certification.)

PHYSICAL FITNESS (30 MINUTES)
Endurance – 400 m in 10 minutes or less
Sprint – 50 m in 60 seconds or less
Object recovery in 40 seconds or less

VICTIM MANAGEMENT (2 HOURS)
Distressed or drowning victim
Submerged, non-breathing victim
Spinal-injured victim
Injured swimmer in lifeguarding situations
